Meta Quest 2 Stationary Boundary Platform Eliminates Headset Straps

VRComfort Labs stated all current VR headsets require some form of head strap or band system to secure and stabilize the device during use. The straps are also required to apply pressure on the faceplate cushion to prevent outside light from entering lens cavity. To achieve maximum stabilization and light blocking, users often over tighten headset straps and bands resulting in excessive pressure on both the head and face. Excessive head and facial pressure results in various degrees of discomfort and negative immersion experience. Excessive faceplate cushion pressure also increases intensity of the "red racoon mask" visible around eyes and skin irritation after prolonged headset use.

The platform developed by VRComfort Labs for the Quest 2 eliminates the requirement for head straps to secure and stabilize the device while in use. By eliminating this requirement, the only facial pressure required is the minimal amount applied to the faceplate cushion for creating a light seal. The user can also dynamically adjust faceplate cushion pressure to what is most comfortable during active engagement. Elimination of the head strap assembly provides quick Quest 2 user engagement, disengagement, and re-engagement with minimal effort. This feature allows a user to take momentary headset engagement breaks to prevent eye strain and fatigue which diminish the virtual immersion experience.

The platform incorporates a multi amp hour power pack system which prevents the Quest 2 from powering down during lengthy immersion engagement sessions. The power pack also supports a forced air-cooling and faceplate cavity ventilation system which eliminates lens fogging and increases headset heat dissipation.

Although the platform is a stationary boundary system, it is completely mobile and can be locked in place by the user when in use. By functioning as a stationary boundary platform, potential user injury and damage to the surrounding is eliminated.
