Shimano PRO Vibe Alloy Stems recalled for cracking concerns

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Shimano North America Holdings Inc. is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall some PRO Vibe Alloy Stems after discovering that corrosion can lead to cracks forming in the clamping area of the fork steerer tube.

Shimano issued a stop riding and recall notice on all PRO Vibe Alloy Stems sold from May 2020. The products affected by the recall can be identified by the prominent silver "V" branding on the faceplate of the stem and the forward-facing mounting bolts.

Two reports have been received of the stems cracking in the U.S. No injuries have been reported. About 400 units are affected, and about 90 were sold in Canada. The same stem was recalled in Europe in March.

Consumers should immediately stop riding bikes with the PRO Vibe alloy stems and take them to the place where purchased or a Shimano authorized retailer to determine if the stem on their bike is included in the recall and for a free replacement stem and free installation.

The stems were sold at bike stores nationwide and online at Backcountry.com from May 2020 through June 2022 for about $130. No other PRO stems, including the Vibe Carbon Stem, are affected by this recall.
