The Fat Boys Set For Induction Into LI Music Hall Of Fame Sunday

STONY BROOK, NY — The Fat Boys will be inducted into the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame at a celebration marking the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop on Sunday.

The popular 80s group is famous for tunes like "Fat Boys," "Are You Ready For Freddy," "Wipeout," with The Beach Boys, and "The Twist" with Chubby Checker, as well as starred in movies like "Disorderlies."

It comprised Damon "Kool Rock Ski" Wimbley, Mark "Prince Markie Dee" Morales, and Darren "Buff Love" Robinson. Wimbley, the group's only surviving member, will speak at the induction.

The anniversary will be marked with a panel discussion and special featuring Son of Bazerk, A.J. Rock of J.V.C. F.O.R.C.E., Dinco D and Milo in de Dance, both from Leaders of the New School, and special guest Ralph McDaniels of Video Music Box, as well as other surprise hip-hop guest artists.

Public Enemy producer Keith Shocklee confirmed to speak on the panel on Friday afternoon.

Wimbley, as well as, DJ Jazzy Jay, DJ Johnny Juice of Public Enemy, and Son of Bazerk will be performing at the event.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Tom Needham, the hall of fame's vice chairman and host of the "Sounds of Film Radio Show," who will be joined by members of JVC Force, Leaders of the New School, DJ Johnny Juice, and Ralph McDaniels.

The event will also include the dedication of a new statue exhibit to LL Cool J.

Hall of Fame Chairman Ernie Canadeo said members are "honored to pay tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop with a live concert performed by some of hip-hop's most influential artists, all from Long Island."

"It is a testament to Long Island's prominent and continuing role in hip-hop's legacy," he said.
